Welcome

Hi I'm Becky. I like to buy and use whatever is locally available to me here in my country of New Zealand. This blog is about my journey doing this, the awesome New Zealand made products I have found, and any other information I think would be interesting to similarly minded souls.....enjoy!

More on socks!!! Yes it is possible....

Nearly forgot until I gazed at my beautifully dressed feet...but there were some other New Zealand made socks at Farmers too. The New Zealand Sock Company www.nzsock.co.nz also do make some socks here in New Zealand. They seem to make all their merino wool socks here and there were some very gorgeous ones too. Also a great price and of course my feet are now adorned with the prettiest floral design thanks to them.

Birthday shopping????

I had my birthday last week and was given a bit of a shopping trip outing as one of my presents. Yesterday I negotiated myself a child free afternoon for an outing to a local shopping centre. Always wearing my 'Local gathering hat' I made my way from shop to shop looking for locally made products to buy. I must say I was a little disappointed, as there was very little about but I did find some yummy things in a couple of chain stores.....

BEAUTIFUL socks made by Columbine in Gisbourne www.columbine.co.nz All kinds of patterns, colours and lengths, wool ones too, extra long which are so snug, under winter trousers and especially boots. Also fabulous tights, with and without feet. And who were the clever people stocking these?? Go Farmers, you guys are awesome. The price was right too and needless to say my feet are now as warm as toast!!

STYLISH New Zealand Merino Wool tops at Glassons www.glassons.co.nz There were some nice colours and styles too. They were in amongst some others that were not made in New Zealand but nevertheless had a fantastic presence. Being at Glassons they were a good price too. I was thrilled and I think shocked the shop assistant with my excitement.

I also treated myself to some delicious Tiramisu Gelato with absolute confidence as it was made right in front of me ( in an equally delicious waffle cone which I doubt was made locally!!). My husband a little disappointed that I had not bought more with my allocated time. However I wanted to save my birthday money for some other fantastic New Zealand made gathering which I intend to do and tell you all about soon.

How it started...

My sister Amy and I have a business Zee Zee Merino Clothing which is committed to creating gorgeous New Zealand made merino wool clothing for children everywhere. As our business has developed I have become more aware of the benefits of buying products that are made here in New Zealand and have gone out of my way to buy New Zealand made products when I am shopping. I think my concept of local gathering is an awesome one in many ways for New Zealand. It is great for our economy and the environment, and of course for our business owners. It also nurtures the amazing creativity we have here and very importantly consumers get awesome products that are first class, unique, healthy and made in fair working conditions. What could be better than that! If you want to check out our Zee Zee Merino Collection visit www.zeezeemerino.co.nz
